So it's quite obvious that you are here right now because you would like to learn how to spin a basketball on
your finger.
Whether you would like to impress your friends
or learn for personal pleasure, this is a very neat skill to learn and become very good at.
Just imagine being in the gym or at your friends
house and being able to perform this trick in front of people.
You will be able to amaze them with your new
ability and they will all wonder how you do it. And you don't have to be a member of the Harlem Globe Trotters to
do so.
What You Will Need
Here are some
requirements:
1. A
basketball. This can be an official NBA size or a miniature
ball. If you don't have a basketball, any round rubber ball will work.
2. A finger. Sorry, if you
have suffered a handicap and are fingerless you will not be able to perform this skill. Maybe if you are extra
motivated, you can use a toe.
3. Patience. Just like
learning anything new this will take some patience on your part. If you don't succeed at first, don't get
discouraged. Just keep trying and eventually you will be good at spinning a basketball on your finger.
4. Time. Dedicate some
time each day to learn this new skill. Before you know it, this will become second nature and super
easy.
5. Enthusiasm. Have a good
attitude about learning this new skill. It is fun and you will enjoy doing it.
The Steps
1. Grab the ball with both
hands. If you are right-handed put your right hand under the ball with your left on the side. Do just the
opposite if you are left-handed. Flick your wrist as you spin the ball clockwise and throw it in an upward motion.
Practice this move a few times.
1. Catch the
Ball. You want to simultaneously spin the basketball as you
throw it up in the air and then catch it on your finger. The finger I would recommend to start with is your index
finger located on your dominant hand. Keep your finger straight and elbow bent with your hand in an 'L'
shape.
2. The
spin. As you begin to develop balance for the ball as it
is spinning on your finger, gently tap it with your opposite hand to keep the spin going and increase
momentum. Eventually this will become second nature and become effortless.
3. Switching
fingers. As you become more comfortable with spinning on one
finger you will be able to spin on other finger. This is a gradual transition and can only be accomplished when you
can spin proficiently on one finger.
These steps are relatively simple when you apply
them consistently. It is just like riding a bike. When you first started riding you fell off and could not keep
your balance. But through repetition and consistency you gradually became comfortable riding a bike, kept your
balance and said goodbye to those training wheels. The same is true for spinning a basketball on your finger.
Practice makes perfect.
Once you have become a basketball spinning
phenomenon you will be able to show off your skill in the gym, your friends house and anywhere else you want. Your
friends and family will be amazed and then you can show them the skill of how to spin a basketball on your finger.
Hey, maybe you will get so good that you decide you want to join the Harlem Globe Trotters.
